The Heart of Our District
Volunteers are the absolute lifeblood of the Florence Rural Fire District. Every day, ordinary citizens from our community step up to perform extraordinary duties, providing fire suppression, rapid emergency medical aid, and specialized rescue services to their neighbors. Our operation is built on mutual trust and a shared mission to protect the lives and property of those within our legal boundaries.
Becoming a volunteer means more than responding to calls; it is a commitment to training and continuous preparedness. Our responders are trained to face high-stakes environments with precision and courage, ensuring Florence remains a safe and protected home. By joining our team, you become part of a legacy of service that defines the strength and resilience of our rural fire district.

Attend A Thursday Night Training
The process begins with attending our weekly Thursday night trainings that begin every Thursday at 7:00 PM Mountain Standard Time. This is a great time to see what being a volunteer entails and obtain a application while also being able to ask any questions that you have. One does not have to have prior firefighting or rescue skills in order to volunteer. The Florence Rural Fire District (FRFD) offers continual training at all levels to allow each member to hone their skills at their level of comfort.
Department Interview
After attending 3 meetings, if you decide this is a good fit for you, you will begin the interview process that includes a background check, DOT physical, verbal interview and overview of the department.Â
Orientation & Training
New members participate in our weekly Thursday night training when able that cover fire suppression, rescue operations and EMS operations. We provide the mentorship and training.Â
Ready to Serve
After successfully completing the interview, you begin your service as an active probationary member. You will join our collaborative team on the front lines, responding to calls, training and serving our community. Going forward, FRFD volunteers are expected to complete 35 hours of training per year and respond to 27 calls each year to remain an active member.

THE FUTURE OF THE FIRE SERVICE
FIRE CADET PROGRAM
The Florence Rural Fire District maintains a dedicated Fire Cadet Program that has been active for several decades. This program is designed for individuals between the ages of 14 and 17 who are interested in exploring careers in public service.
Cadets are subject to the same training requirements as our regular volunteers; however, an additional training night is scheduled to accommodate student schedules. If you are interested, please attend one of our Thursday night training meetings to learn more about the program. The Fire Cadet Program is a vocationally oriented initiative open to youth ages 14-17 exploring future career paths in public service. The Florence Rural Fire District established this program to help young adults explore careers in the fire service while instilling core values, personal responsibility, and essential life skills. The Florence Rural Fire District proudly supports and encourages all Cadet program activities.
